Planning as a broad concept and urban planning, or what is also termed urban spatial planning as a specific concept, has due consideration to the fact that urban and regional planning is a specific form of planning within its broad meaning. Consequently, in this book the intention has not been to offer new planning theories and approaches. 2021-04-08 Planning is a process, procedure, or method for setting goals, identifying and assessing option s, and developing strategies for achieving desired options. It is a pervasive human activity imbedded in future-oriented decision making.

2017-03-24 · Planning and Urban Design projects that are focused on the public realm and are not immediately linked to building projects quite often face a long time frame until implementation actually starts. The absence of private property development and related stake-holders make these projects “purely public” and therefore dependent on public financing. He outlines the main theories of planning, from the traditional view of urban planning as an exercise in physical design, to the systems and rational process views of planning of the 1960s; from Marxist accounts of the role of planning in capitalist society in the 1970s, to theories about planning implementation, and more recent views of planning as a form of `communicative action'. There are eight procedural theories of planning that remain the principal theories of planning procedure today: the rational-comprehensive approach, the incremental approach, the transactive approach, the communicative approach, the advocacy approach, the equity approach, the radical approach, and the humanist or phenomenological approach.
